The story of Chanel perfume
Gabrielle Chanel launched Chanel No 5 in 1921; its formula was composed by the perfumer Ernest Beaux. Jacques Polge, Chanel's in-house perfumer from 1978, went on to create Coco Mademoiselle in 2001, Chance in 2002, Coromandel in 2007 and Bleu de Chanel, a woody aromatic for men, in 2010. His son Olivier Polge now leads the house's perfume creation.

Coromandel is an amber, woody and vanilla scent from Les Exclusifs de Chanel. It opens with olibanum (frankincense), moves to patchouli and woody notes, and settles on ambergris and benzoin. Its name comes from the Coromandel lacquered screens Coco Chanel kept in her rue Cambon apartment in Paris, and it wears warm, smooth and slightly smoky.
